How do you I even start budgeting or handling my money? This is a question a lot of people ask. This was also a topic and a recent Dave Ramsey podcast. Side note: I am following Dave's plan :)
So, how do you begin?
You need an internal engine. You have to fill up the gas and get going. You have to want it enough to change your ways. You need to be angry with yourself and at the mistakes you made. Once you're mad, you will be intentional with your decisions.
Now, look at your income. Are you making enough to pay all your bills and expenses and have extra to throw at a savings? Will you need to work overtime or will you need a 2nd job? Now you need a written budget. See my post about how a budget changed my life.
Look for extra money: what can you sell that you dont need? That dresser thats in the "guest room" that hasnt had a guest in it for 3 years? Sell, sell, sell!
Make sure you're looking at all your debts too. Look at them as often as you can to remind yourself why.
Stay mad, and stay intentional. Becoming debt free or having a budget does not happen overnight and done in one day. I adjust my budget almost every day. I play with the numbers to see how much I can throw at the debt. It's not about "whats the minimum should I be throwing at my savings/debt" it needs to be how much can I save/pay debt and still survive.
